Sheiri Mekhaiel graduated with a Master's Degree from Long Island University, Brooklyn Campus in 2018. Sheiri is a certified Speech-Language Pathologist currently holding a Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) as a member of American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA). As the owner and founder of House of Speech and Language Therapy, PLLC, she provides in home speech therapy for all ages in Manhattan.
With school based experience in elementary and high school settings, Sheiri holds a New York State License- Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities (TSSLD). She has provided speech therapy for kids with Down Syndrome, Autism, Learning Disabilities, Intellectual Disabilities, and Speech and Language Impairments. She also treats complex speech and language disorders across all ages who require augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices. Primarily used to support verbal communication, AAC devices can be utilized for sentence expansion, non-verbal populations, severe articulation cases, and specific types of aphasia.
Having extensive literacy training in a school based setting, Sheiri is trained in the Lively Letters program. This is a research-based and clinically proven, multi-sensory reading program that can bridge the gap for struggling readers.
With intensive training in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Sheiri has been providing speech therapy for the Early Intervention program for five years in New York City while using this evidence based practice technique. She continues to provide in home early intervention for children ages birth to 3 years old in person and through tele-therapy.
While Sheiri holds certification in Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT) LOUD, she is qualified to provide voice therapy for individuals with Parkinson's Disease. With rehabilitative experience in skilled nursing facility (SNF) and outpatient rehabilitation, she provides direct treatment for patients with: Aphasia, Apraxia, Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Cognitive Communication Deficits, Dysarthria, swallowing therapy (dysphagia), and other complex speech and language impairments.
Sheiri is PROMPT trained through the PROMPT Institute. She is also Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (OMT) trained through the Academy of Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy and is pursuing certification in both areas.
